Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation announced Wednesday that all of the $215,000 in tax credits awarded to the organization by the Kansas Department of Commerce earlier this year have been purchased and will allow the organization to contribute $300,000 to Barton Community College toward the rebuilding of the Camp Aldrich conference center/dining hall that was lost in a fire early in 2014.
In August of 2013 Kans for Kids acquired sponsorship of Camp Hope, a one-week summer camp for children from across the state of Kansas and western Missouri who have cancer or are in remission.
“Camp Aldrich has been ‘home’ to Camp Hope for over 30 years,” said Debbie Reif, director of Kans for Kids. “The fire was devastating for them. However, BCC graciously provided their campus for camp 2014. We’re forever grateful for their generosity.”
Kans for Kids’ Camp Hope Committee provided BCC with a “wish list” of things that would be beneficial to Camp Hope and other similar groups using Camp Aldrich.
“We were hopeful that we’d be able to provide $215,000 toward the rebuilding but we are thrilled to be able to contribute $300,000 toward the rebuilding,” said Reif. “With the additional $85,000, all of Camp Hope’s wish list will be fulfilled. We are so very grateful to all of those who contributed to this project!”
Kans for Kids was one of 28 non-profit organizations selected to share $4.13 million in tax credits under the Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Program.
