3 injured when vehicle hits deer

CLAFLIN — Three people were taken to Barton County hospitals on Thursday after a motorist swerved to miss a deer on K-156 at NE 130 Ave., 1 mile south of Claflin.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 7:12 p.m. The 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Cary Wethington, 34, of Hutchinson, hit the deer, entered the ditch and struck a stop sign, then vaulted across NE 130 Ave. before hitting a power pole and rolling 1.5. All three occupants were trapped in the car after it came to rest on its roof. They were all wearing seat belts.
Wethington was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital. Passengers Macey D. Fagen, 23, and Forestwalker Burch, 15, both of Great Bend, were taken to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington.
