World War II flyer visits local air show
World War II Army Air Corps pilot Emerson Shields, St. John, poses with another World War II veteran, a C-45 twin engine, Friday afternoon at the Great Bend Municipal Airport Air Festival and Fly-In. Shields, who flew with the 303rd Bomb Group, will celebrate his 86th birthday during the weekend festival, which will feature a number of veteran military aircraft as well as many modern planes, and much more, all at the airport, west of Great Bend. The event is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the rest of the weekend.
