A meeting of veterans World War II flyer visits local air show World War II Army Air Corps pilot Emerson Shields, St. John, poses with another World War II veteran, a C-45 twin engine, Friday afternoon at the Great Bend Municipal Airport Air Festival and Fly-In. Shields, who flew with the 303rd Bomb Group, will celebrate his 86th birthday during the weekend festival, which will feature a number of veteran military aircraft as well as many modern planes, and much more, all at the airport, west of Great Bend.
