Whether you’re a singer, a dancer, a comedian, a poet, an actor, or any other sort of talented individual, the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors wants you to perform in their upcoming “Barton County’s Got Talent” dinner theatre scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21. Members of the community are invited to help make this event a success by providing those in attendance with a variety show they’ll remember. “There is a great need for adequate housing in our community,” says Habitat Board Co-Chair David Hart. “Our dinner theatre fundraiser will be a fun and entertaining way to raise funds and awareness for our upcoming projects.”
Audition sessions will be held on from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 12. Both will be held at Grace Community Church, the host site for this year’s diner theater. “Individuals who participate in our variety show competition can take pride knowing that not only are they having fun performing for a live audience,” Hart says. “But they’re also helping a worthy non-profit agency make a difference in our community.”
Habitat for Humanity is currently in the process of building a 3-bedroom for a family in Barton County. From the outside, the missing vinyl siding is the only thing keeping the home from looking complete. Interior construction is far from complete, but will be on hold until a family has officially been selected so that they can put sweat equity in the home.
“This fundraiser is a fun spin-off of the America’s Got Talent television show,” Hart says. “Our acts will compete for the chance to win prizes, but everyone who participates is guaranteed the satisfaction of providing a home for a family in Barton County.”
Although the auditions are held at a local church, auditioning acts do not have to be religious in nature. For more information or to reserve an audition slot, contact event organizer Rachel Mawhirter at 620-786-4896. Performance slots are limited.
