Barton Community College will host its fifth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 2 and 3 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.
The contest is open to all residents of Barton County.  Artists wishing to participate can register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on either day.  Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Thursday, May 3.
Gallery Director Dave Barnes will judge the sidewalk art and award the prizes. The art can be done by individuals or by several artists on a team. Prizes to be awarded are three $100 awards.  If a team wins, its members will share the $100 award.
Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek said the annual competition is something he looks forward to.
“It involves people in the whole county, and they’re able to come participate in an artistic endeavor,” Dudek said.  “The contest shows the creative side of a lot of different people.”
