Snowy owl spotted at Cheyenne Bottoms by several

A snowy owl was spotted Saturday, Dec. 28 at Cheyenne Bottoms in pool 2 by several different individuals.
Snowy owls are an arctic tundra species that are rarely seen as far south as Kansas. However, some years, due to large hatches of owls and/or shortages of food, the large white owls migrate south into the U.S.
In 2011, over 100 owls were documented in Kansas and numerous snowy owls were seen at Cheyenne Bottoms.
This year, several snowy owls have been observed in Kansas, but not nearly as many as two years ago. Larger numbers of have been seen this year in the northeast U.S.

Robot meet and greet to be held

HOISINGTON —A robot meet-and-greet and open house will be held, in conjunction with the Hoisington Chamber Coffee, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Clara Barton Hospital, Turnbull Safe Room. The public is encouraged to attend the meet and greet between 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Clara Barton Hospital will showcase the technology that allows the medical care providers at Clara Barton Hospital to request a stroke-trained neurologist through WesleyCare Telemedicine Network. The live remote-in during the open house will show how the robot is utilized to assist with real-time assessment and how it allows Clara Barton Medical staff to consult with experts in stroke-specific care. The winning name of the “Name the Robot Contest” will be announced during the hospital’s hosted Chamber Coffee.
