Biking across Kansas group to stop in Hoisington

HOISINGTON — On June 6, the Biking across Kansas group will stop in Hoisington.

There are people registered from 29 states other than Kansas. Entries are from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Vancouver Foreign and Washington D.C.

The total registered are 917 with 805 full-time riders and 71 part-time riders. The oldest registrant is 81 and the youngest is 6.

A Hoisington High School youth group is planning a fundraiser meal the evening of June 6 at the Hoisington Activity Center and the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce is planning a breakfast fundraiser on June 7.

The Hoisington Historical Society Museum, Cardinal Lanes and the Kansas Wetlands Education Center will be open, as well as provide tours of Cheyenne Bottoms. USD 431 will provide a shuttle bus to the center, one at 4 p.m. and another at 6 p.m. Bikers can also enjoy the swimming pool, walking trail, activity center and tennis courts.

Barton Community College Art Instructor Steve Dudek’s watercolor painting “Shirley’s Koi” has been accepted into the 37th Annual San Diego Watercolor Society International Exhibition in San Diego, Calif. The juror for the show is Katherine Chang Liu. Additionally, Dudek was asked to become a signature member of the San Diego Watercolor Society.
