TOPEKA — Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback announced the winners of the 2013 Kansas Book Festival Grants during a news conference today at the Statehouse in Topeka.
St. Joseph School Library in Ellinwood receives $500 grant.
“We were very pleased to receive this grant from the Kansas Book Festival Foundation,” said Lead Teacher Marlene Clayton. “Our plans are to purchase books for the library; specifically, we will be looking for books for our early readers as well as books to interest our upper-grade male students.  The students always look forward to the arrival of new books so we are anxious to start book shopping!”
“The Kansas Book Festival works year round to promote literacy and encourage a life-long love of reading,” First Lady Brownback said. “These grants will help preserve and improve local and school libraries across the state.”
There are 16 public and school libraries will share in receiving a portion of the $12,555 in grants.
