HOISINGTON — Superior Essex of Hoisington announced the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Jones Kithuka, senior manufacturing engineer, was named the third quarter 2011 STAR Employee and will be treated to a luncheon in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.

The Superior Essex STAR Recognition Award Program is designed to quarterly recognize STAR employees (Superior Teamwork Attitude and Results) for their outstanding teamwork, service, attitude, performance, and commitment to achieving the Plant’s goals. One award is given quarterly to an outstanding employee, and the selection is based on peer nominations.

Kithuka has worked at Superior Essex since April 1998. His knowledge and expertise are relied upon each and every day. He consistently demonstrates all of the qualities expected of a ‘STAR’ employee including his high work quality, work ethic, attitude, teamwork, volunteerism, mentoring skills, patience, and dependability.

His peer nominations read, "Jones has been the main person on some of the plants biggest projects the last several years from product development, new printers, and plant expansion. Not to mention at the same time the normal duties of Engineering like supporting other departments with on the spot issues that arise. He also is responsible for cost savings projects, safety sponsorship, and Environmental programs. Even when things change on him and he has to switch gears after a lot of hard work, he always manages to keep a smile on his face." "I believe Jones deserves this award because you never hear him complain, and he never shows frustration when things don’t go his way on projects. He just digs a little deeper and keeps pushing forward. He is always the first to volunteer his time to help whenever it is needed. He is a great role model and a huge asset to this company. His work is always done right – his projects never need redone. He has made huge improvements to this plant, and he always puts his job and Superior Essex first!"

Kithuka was surprised to be the recipient of the award. He said he was extremely appreciative and acknowledged the great team of people he works with throughout the plant.

Mike Klepper, Plant Manager, said, "Jones has been a role model for the Engineering Department and for the Hoisington Plant. He is always willing to help on any project and regularly participates on the Safety Committee or a Lean event. He is always willing to stay late or come in early when there is a demand. His positive attitude, work ethic and dedication make him an ideal candidate for the STAR employee award."
