HOISINGTON — The HMS boys basketball team completed a very successful season by claiming the MCAA League championships in both the A and C divisions. The B team finished second in their division. The HMS teams boasted a combined record of 32-8 on the year with the A team going 12-2, B team 12-2 and the C team 8-4.
The A team coasted through the tournament with an opening round win over Ellinwood 32-17 and then defeated the host team Larned Indians 47-30 for the Championship.
Scoring for HMS in the final game was led by Tyler Specht with 12 points, Corbin Crawford 11, Grant Dolechek 9, Hunter Hanzlick 7, Taylor Richter 6, and Cameron Davis 2. The coach was Joe Cotten
The B team made it to the championship game by virtue of a 42-6 win over Ellinwood but couldn’t overcome an early Larned lead and some foul trouble to take the defeat by a score 38-30.
B team members are Rudy Gearhart, Gavin Riedl, Isaac Prosser, Alex Rziha, Kyle Lang, Michael MacMahon, Ben Schneider and Tre Hinds. The coach was Eric Hoffman.
The C team claimed their portion of the MCAA Tourney by defeating Larned and TMP in a Round Robin format for the C Division.
Members of the B team are Jeremy Breit, Brinttain Noah, Austin Strandburg, Cameron Knapp, Nash Stambaugh, Brenden Steinert, Kaiden Jeffrey, David Boese, Tristen Byers, Nick Hughes, Trevar Younger. The coach was Jeb Detter.
