Wayne Simien to speak at Ellinwood Schools

ELLINWOOD — Wayne Simien, former University of Kansas basketball standout, will be at Ellinwood Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to speak with students.  Mr. Simien received All American honors his junior and senior years at KU and was the BIG 12 Player of the Year his senior year.  He was also the Lowe’s Award Winner his final year, recognizing him as the nation’s top senior men’s basketball player.  KU retired his number 23 jersey on Jan. 29, 2011.  He was selected in the 1st round of the NBA draft and played for the Miami Heat.  He now runs “Called To Greatness” where he speaks to students about making good choices, holds basketball camps for kids, and does ministry work.
Simien will speak to Ellinwood students about being a person of good character, being responsible, being drug-free and standing up against bullying. He will be at Ellinwood Grade School at 1 p.m. and then at Ellinwood MS/HS at 2 p.m. for his presentation.
