Networking Specialist programs at Barton Community College were revised Thursday by the BCC Board of Trustees. Jane Howard and others involved in the programs explained that the certificate and specialist degree programs differed between the Barton County campus and the Fort Riley campus.
In some cases, the changes involve minor revisions to the syllabus wording. For example, one syllabus might say the students will learn the current version of Windows Server, while another says they’re learning Windows 2013.
New syllabi place more emphasis on security issues than in the past.
Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman recommended approving the proposed modifications. “It’s an overdue and very needed adjustment,” he said.
In other business, the board approved hiring three individuals to fill existing positions. They are: Samuel Gibbons, systems analyst, and Emily Cowles, part-time academic tutor for the Adult Education program, both at the Barton campus; and Ashley Arnold, part-time VA, LSEC, BSEP coordinator at the Fort Riley campus.
The meeting was adjourned, and board members then held their annual Retreat, participating in webinars titled “What Trustees need to know about Financial Oversight” and “Safeguarding your institution; The board’s Role in Navigating Disaster.
