Representatives from the City of Great Bend, the Chamber of Commerce, and Overland Property Group assembled at the site where the first phase of the apartment complex, “The Reserves at Trail Ridge,” will be built for a ceremonial ground breaking Wednesday afternoon.
Matt Gillam, vice president of development for Leawood-based Overland Property Group, said the development is the first time his company has brought a development modeled after those in more metropolitan communities to a rural area. The high demand for the location with all it had to offer made it a natural choice, he said.  Each unit will feature alder cabinets, walk-in closets, and other desirable amenities. We ask that you come show your support for this long-anticipated housing project.
Located on the west side of Grant Street across from Wal-Mart and south of Comfort Inn, the complex will feature 48 apartments, a clubhouse with a fitness facility, barbecue and picnic area, paved walking paths, children’s playground and sports court.
Gillam said the company anticipates the two and three bedroom units to be ready to for occupancy in nine months, weather permitting.  The company will begin taking lease applications two months prior to completion, he said.
Peters praised the efforts of the city council, Mayor Mike Allison, City Administrator Howard Partington, and Gillam for making the addition of these much needed new apartments possible.  She also offered thanks for the efforts of Great Bend real estate broker Burt Keller, who worked closely with the Chamber and Gillam to identify and procure the land where the apartment complex will be built.
The development has been made possible through an award of tax credits by Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for part one.
