Noon on Tuesday was the filing deadline for those interested in running for various school board, city council and hospital board positions in Barton County. The regular election is April 5.
According to county election officials, they were still waiting for filing information from some of the smaller communities. But, below is a listing of candidates they have thus far:
Barton Community College, three open positions: Mike Johnson, Great Bend, Brett Middleton, Great Bend, Mike Minton, Great Bend, and Glenn Opie, Great Bend.
USD 428 Great Bend, four at-large positions open: Wade Babcock, Great Bend, Doug Bender, Great Bend, Mark R. Hestand, Great Bend, James E. Jordan, Great Bend, Cheryl D. Rugan, Great Bend, and Dwight Young, Great Bend.
USD 431, Hoisington,Position 1 and 2, and Position 7 at-large: Position 1, Rebecca Mooney, Hoisington, and Position 7, Dean Stoskopf, Hoisington.
USD 355, Ellinwood, four at-large positions: Gregory R. (Bob) Baker Jr., Patricia J. Berger, Ellinwood, Becca Maxwell, Ellinwood, Taunya M. Schlessiger, Ellinwood, Dianna M. Smith, Ellinwood, and Lori L. Thomas, Ellinwood.
Ellinwood District Hospital, two at-large positions: Lloyd Kurtz and Marvin Charles Sessler.
Great Bend Mayor: Mike Allison and Randy S. Myers.
Great Bend City Council: Mitchell K. Haney, Ward 1, Dale Westhoff, Ward 2, Allene Owen, Ward 3, and Dana Dawson, Ward 4.
Ellinwood Mayor: Frank Koelsch.
Ellinwood City Council, two positions: Irlan Fullbright and Gaila A. Nielsen.
Claflin Mayor: Mike Urban.
Claflin City Council, two positions: Casey Hubbard, Dan Michaelis and Richard Tennant.
USD 112 Central Plains School District, filed in Ellsworth County:
Position 1: R. Malcolm Shaw; Position 2: Dawn Dolezal; Position 3: Cherlyn Kay Maier; Position 4: Brent Turner, Ronald G. Etchison; Position 5: Jerry Bieberle; Position 6: Bert L. Besthorn, Richard D. Rugan and Dawnya Hickel; and Position 7: James C. Vance, Kevin M. Liebl, Tom Lumpkins, Michelle A. Brokes.
Because there are four candidates for Position 7, the at-large position, a primary will have to be held.
"I will have a primary election for the seventh at -large position for USD 112," said Janet Andrews, Ellsworth county clerk. "The primary will be on March 1, and I will be sending publications to all five counties involved in the primary." The primary will only be for Position 7.
Albert City Council, three positions open: Martheda Hanhardt, Joann George and Robert D. Ritterhouse.
Galatia Mayor: Steve Wilhelm.
Galatia City Council, five positions: Larry Deines, Dennis Funk, Leland B. Keil and Kevin Polzin.
Olmitz City Council, five positions: Jay W. Scott.
Pawnee Rock Mayor: James Oberle and Timothy M. Parret
Pawnee Rock City Council, two positions: Gary L. Adams, Joseph J. Billus and Nickolle Parret.
