Two people were injured Sunday morning when a Chevy Malibu missed a curve at SE 40 Road and SE 150 Ave., hit a tree and caught on fire.
Barton County Sheriff’s Office reports Megan Drach, 25, and Hala Moataane, 20, both of Hutchinson, were transported to Ellinwood District Hospital by ambulances from Ellinwood Emergency Services. Ellinwood Fire Department also assisted.
The driver, Drach, had apparent injuries to her face and also complained of back pain. Passenger Moataane also had apparent injuries to the face and a possible concussion caused by the accident. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
One of the people in the car called 911 at 5:30 a.m., but the first call went to Rice County. The dispatcher was told a house and a car were on fire. After a second call the Rice County dispatcher was successful in transferring the call to Barton County. At that time both people reported being out of the car. They were unfamiliar with the area and could only report they were near Ellinwood.
