Lots happening at the Ellinwood library

BY SHERI HOLMES

ELLINWOOD — Summer Reading 2014 is in the books at the Ellinwood School/Community Library!  We had 159 youth who signed up for our program, and a great time was had by all!  Fizz * Boom * Read was the science based theme that was filled with experiments, activities, and a load of fun.
Andrea Everhart and Michele Martin collaborated to create an atmosphere that was intriguing and fascinating to our young scientists.  Topics that were covered this summer included:  weather, animals, food, chemical reactions, space, and plants.  Prizes for this event were earned by completing Level 1 (reading 10 books) and these achievers received a poster and a Frosty from Wendy’s.  Level 2 (reading 20 books) earned our readers a Sunflower Bank gold dollar coin and a light up ball.  Level 3 (reading 30 books) was worth a drawstring backpack or an animal hat, depending on the child’s age.
Thank you to Sunflower Bank and Wendy’s for contributing prizes!  We would also like to thank Kayanna Hammeke, Sara Hammeke, Eric Jones, Sierra Weatherman, and Rachael Dickson for their assistance with our participants – we couldn’t do this without you!  We are looking forward to seeing the little ones in October for Story Time!
