Chili cookoff a good "draw"

Brad Smalley and Ana Klecker, historical reenactors from the Longbranch Saloon museum in Dodge City, deputized several young lawpersons at high noon Saturday, Nov. 3 at P and S Security in Great Bend. It was part of the Explore Great Bend chili cookoff taking place along Mainstreet and at the Westgate Shopping Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For $5, tasters purchased a bracelet which gave them a chance to sample 18 different chilis around town, and one peoples choice vote. Contestants offered a wide variety of recipes featuring beef, chicken, turkey, pork and venison, red, white and green. Some offered shredded cheese or chips, lime, and even cinnamon rolls to accompany thier entry. Funds raised by the event sponsored by Sunflower Diversified and the City of Great Bend will benefit the Barton County Food Bank.
