Steven ‘Chad’ Reed, 50, died June 5, 2026, in a vehicular accident with his devoted mother, Barbara Joan Krier, in Waubansee County, Kan.
Chad was born July 30, 1975, to Steven Warren Reed and Barbara Joan Krier.
After graduating high school, he went to work in the oil field for many years. He attended church with his mother at Prince of Peace Parish. Chad was a sports enthusiast and loved sporting his Jordan’s. He was known for his great sense of humor and the ability to make others laugh.
He is survived by his five children, Kelsea Kirmer and Andrew Reed both of Great Bend, Broc Reed, Bailey Reed, and Emma Reed all of Wichita; three grandchildren, De’Asia Ryce, Da’Lajiah Ryce, and Da’Ravian Ryce Jr. all of Great Bend; father, Steven W. Reed of McPherson; sister, Tina Reed and significant other Stephen Scott of Topeka; nieces and nephew, Danielle Reed (Toby Tracy) of Christiansburg, Va., Ashlie Reed (Josh Allen) of Waxahachie, Texas, and Kylo Scott of Topeka; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Joan Krier and paternal grandparents Tom and Carol Reed.
Vigil and Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3rd, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Fathers Benjamin Dande and Prakash Kola. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Chad Reed Memorial Fund, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
