It was good news that caused the Barton County Commissioners to hold a budget amendment hearing Monday morning.
Because there was more money available at the end of the year than was anticipated, they needed to make arrangements for some of that money to get used at the end of the year.
“The Road and Bridge Fund and Solid Waste Fund amendments are due to additional revenue received during 2011 that will allow for additional budget authority,” the county’s hearing announcement noted.
Finance Officer Janet Crane explained Monday morning that the Road and Bridge Fund would be amended by $71,000 in extra user fees that provides money for department’s capital outlay fund to use before the end of the year, or for the money to increase its year end transfer.
The Solid Waste Fund saw an additional $480,000 in collections this year due to special disposals the landfill took in during the year.
It was approved for the department to have $100,000 to cover expected repairs before the end of the year.
The third fund affected was the Criminal Justice Information Systems Fund.
The hearing information noted that “... is a special revenue fund that receives its operating revenue from city user fees and 911 taxes. This amendment is due to the fund’s expenditures exceeding the original operating budget. This additional spending has been recovered by increased city user fees and transfers from the 911 tax fund.”
That fund was increased by $1,781.
