With voters heading to the polls Tuesday for local general elections, Barton County Election Officer Donna Zimmerman has some last-minute reminders.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. And, even though federal Election Law requires that voters provide identification, those who have applied for and are listed as “permanent advanced voters” (who receive their ballots by mail) don’t have to provide additional identification.
These voters have a disability or illness, and always cast advanced ballots.
However, every other voter must bring their IDs with them when they come to vote, she said.
Noon Monday is the deadline for voters to vote advanced ballots in person in Zimmerman’s office, located on the second floor of the Courthouse in room 202. Tuesday is the deadline for sick/disabled/illiterate voters to apply for an advanced voting ballot.
All advanced ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
There will be a general election for: U.S. Senate; U.S. House of Representatives First District; governor/lieutenant governor; Kansas secretary of state; Kansas attorney general; Kansas state treasurer; Kansas insurance commissioner; Kansas House 109th, 112th and 113th districts; State Board of Education Fifth District; Barton County Commission First, Fourth and Fifth districts; and numerous township positions.
There are also sales tax questions in Claflin and Hoisington, a property acquisition question in South Homestead Township, and statewide question about legalizing raffles.
