Drawing to help June Jaunt rock camp

Time is running out to help our youth learn the basics of rock and roll. Organizers of the second-annual Great Bend Rocks Band Camp are selling chances for a drawing to win prizes donated by local businesses.

The deadline for buying the chances is Wednesday, Dec. 24. The tickets are available for a suggested donation of $5 each or five for $20, and can be picked up at J&L Coin, located at 12th and Main in Great Bend.

Prizes include a 40-inch LCD television, an ICE watch, a gift basket, Bluetooth headphones and four lunch buffets from Gambino’s.
The camp is designed for kids ages 11-18, said Chris Price of Hoisington, one of the organizers. They will learn two or three classic rock tunes and will perform them during a June Jaunt program in the Barton County Courthouse Square.

Registration will open in February with the deadline to sign up set for mid April. Rehearsals for individuals will start first, then participants will be put into bands which will then practice as groups.

In addition to Price, B-104.3 FM and the City of Great Bend sponsor the camp.
