A 1946 Dodge was a casualty of an early morning fire in a detached garage at 4612 Railroad Ave.

Great Bend Tribune newspaper carrier Vickie Clawson saw the fire and reported it at 2 a.m. Tuesday. Fire Chief Mike Napolitano said firefighters arrived to find the garage heavily involved with fire.

"The fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries," he said. "The structure was a total loss, as was the 1946 Dodge that was inside being restored."

GBFD Capt. Luke McCormick and someone from the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the scene later in the day and determined the fire was caused by a malfunctioning electrical fuse panel in the garage.

Two years ago, the home at 4612 Railroad Ave. was heavily damaged by fire as restoration of the building was under way. This time the fire did not extend to the home.
