Great Bend Firefighter Mark Orth took this photo of a house fire last Friday morning, Oct. 4, at 1220 Holland St. The fire was reported at  8:55 a.m. as smoke was seen coming from the house.

In earlier reports, the address was listed as 1220 Lakin Ave.

The first units in reported heavy smoke coming from the eaves and windows on the second floor. Fire was found in the bedroom and the closet, and had spread to joists into the living room ceiling. The house was being remodeled; no one was living in it and the utilities were not hooked up at the time of the fire. Great Bend Fire department and the state fire marshal’s office investigated, but the cause of the fire could not be determined.
