Saturday, you could still shop around and find gas for $2.96 in Great Bend, but the community woke Friday to find that some stations had already made the move up to $3 per gallon for regular unleaded.
Technically, the price was $2.99.9 — so it was one-tenth of one cent under $3 per gallon.
While Great Bend was not the most expensive place in Kansas to get gas at the end of the week, it was far from the cheapest, either.
The lowest price listed at mid-day Friday was Wamego, with gas at $2,70.
Other lower prices in the state included $2.85, Concordia; $2.86, Wichita; $2.87, Kingman; $2.89, Lawrence, Arkansas City, Hesston and Wichita; $2.91, Salina; $2.95 in Emporia, Manhattan and Junction City; $2.97, Hutchinson;
High price in the state was $3.09 at  Chanute, Parsons, Ulysses, Oakley, Iola, Cherryvale, and Wichita; $3.07 at Lawrence and Paola; and 3.05 at Arkansas City.
By Saturday, the high reported in the state had risen to $3.19 in Parsons, followed by $3.15 at Dodge City
The state average price on Friday was just under $3 at $2.98, compared to $2.83 a month ago and $2.62 a year ago.
The national average on Friday was $3.07. A year ago, it was $2.71.
The prices are reported on Kansas Gas Prices, which is operated by Gas Buddy Organization, that was developed as a way for the public to report changes in gas prices around the nation.
