A 72-year-old Great Bend man died Monday morning when he wrecked his pickup in rural Reno County, the Reno County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At about 7:30 a.m. Monday, a citizen reported to Reno County Undersheriff Sheldon Stewart that she saw a vehicle in a field north of the intersection of K-14 and K-96 highways. Stewart responded and found an extensively damaged 2006 Ford F-150 pick-up about quarter of a mile north of the intersection.
He also discovered the deceased body of Dewey D. Haddon several feet north of the vehicle.
According to a RCSO news release, it appears that the vehicle was north bound on K-14 and failed to stop that the stop sign at K-96. It apparently crossed the highway onto Sego Road, went out of control crossing Sego Road, and then crossing it again before going into a worked wheat field.
The vehicle then rolled several times ejecting the driver.
The investigation is continuing.
