A local business is offering the opportunity to make the Christmas season a little brighter for some local and area youngsters.

Great Bend Coffee Company, 2015 Lakin, is displaying a Giving Tree to benefit children under 5 who attend either Sunflower’s Early Education Center or its Incredible Years Preschool.

"This is so incredibly generous," said Cathy Estes, coordinator of both the EEC and the preschool. "The folks at Great Bend Coffee contacted us with the idea and, of course, we gratefully accepted."

Paul and Barbara Wagner own the business.

The Giving Tree is decorated with 44 white doves, each with a red ribbon bearing the first name of a child, along with the gender and age.

"We hope members of the community will stop by and choose a child and deliver a special gift for Christmas," Estes said. "Anyone who helps with this worthy cause will feel the personal satisfaction of bringing a smile to the face of a child."

Gifts will be gathered until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Sunflower, a non-profit agency, owns and operates the EEC and the preschool for children who live in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties.
