The state fire marshal and Great Bend Police Department are investigating a fire that destroyed a Great Bend home early Saturday morning, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said.

The fire marshal and other investigators who examined the house at 802 Jefferson St. on Monday said the fire was set, and they are investigating the possibility of arson. The house, owned by Maria Zamora, was unoccupied but undergoing renovation. Loss was estimated at $10,000, and the house will probably have to be torn down, the chief said.

Firefighters were summoned at 1:44 a.m. Saturday and arrived at the single-story house to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the back porch, windows and doors. They were at the scene for about two hours.

No one was injured.

Anyone with information about the cause of the fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 792-1300 or 1-888-305-1300 for toll-free calls outside of Great Bend.
