LARNED — Larned partied this weekend for Santa Fe Trail Days with a parade on Saturday, displays of quilts and cars, free food, and games for the kids, among other activities.
Ruth Olson Peters, former Santa Fe Trail Center museum director, led the parade.
She has been a part of the Santa Fe Trail Days celebration since the event started.
Antique cars were parked on one side of the street for car lovers to enjoy, with the hoods lifted for the true car connoisseur. Traffic was blocked off of downtown Broadway with plenty of signage pointing out alternate routes.
At the Santa Fe Trail Center, there is an ongoing display of quilts, both old and new.  Some of the quilts date from the late 1800s. There are crazy quilts, beautiful flour sack quilts, quilts from worn out clothing and quilts for special events.
The quilts will be on display for a month. Admission is $4.
Thursday night opened with a Team Roping competition with rodeo events that continued through Friday.
Still scheduled for today are the quilt show, carnival rides, a community church service, Santa Fe Trail Days button prize giveaway, craft and food vendors, and a petting zoo.
The event was once held in April but was moved to June to take advantage of better weather.
