The spaghetti was flying — as was the ketchup, mustard, whipped cream and Hawaiian Punch — Friday afternoon on the lawn of the Great Bend Public Library.
Twenty-five teens had earned the right to take part in the second annual Food Fight, although only three students actually showed up. That made for a fairly even match, with Young Adult Librarian Jennifer King and her summer assistant Haylee Blake joining the melee. Maybe it was the 100-degree weather, or the fact that parents and guardians knew this would be a mega-messy activity. In fact, everyone had to be hosed off afterwards.
Teen participants were Joshua Bobbitt, Sage Cauley and Chloe Gibson.
“Hope nobody shows up late today,” King said as the designated time for the showdown neared. “I warned them.”
The food fight was over in about 10 minutes.
“This is what we should do on the last day of school,” one of the boys commented.
