When looking at gas prices in Kansas, Great Bend, and most of the surrounding communities for that matter, fall about in the middle of the pack, according to the most recent report from KansasGasPrices.com.
The average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have fallen 4.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.57/g Friday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.81/g, the gasoline price website notes.
The state low came in Salina where it was $3.38 in town and $3.39 just off Interstate 70. Highs came in Dodge City at $3.82, Oberlin at $3.79 and Ellsworth at $3.77, just off I-70.
Prices across Great Bend were consistent at $3.59, where they have remained for a while. The same was the case in Larned and Lyons. The same price was found at Junction City.
Including the change in gas prices in Kansas during the past week, prices Friday were 19.8 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 17.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 8.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 10.4 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
“Unsurprisingly, the average price for a gallon of regular self-serve continues to drop in a majority of communities across the United States,” said GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan. “The national average now stands nearly 10-cents per gallon lower than the same date a year ago, but will we hear an end to complaining about gasoline prices at the pump? Perhaps the rhetoric will wind down, but with summer around the corner, any sudden increase in price of gasoline will have Americans virtually calling for the heads of politicians in November,” DeHaan said.
GasBuddy operates KansasGasPrices.com and over 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at over 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada. In addition, GasBuddy offers a free smartphone app which has been downloaded over 20 million times to help motorists find gasoline prices in their area.
