“Mad Science” will be part of the summer entertainment during the Great Bend Library’s Summer Reading Program. Members of the Mad Science franchise from Kansas City, Kan., will do demonstrations at 2 and 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the library, 1409 Williams St.
The program is intended for elementary school students through grade 6, said Children’s Librarian Amanda Moran-Jones. This year’s summer programs all have a science theme, and the theme for the children’s program is “Fizz, Boom Read.”
Some children in the audiences will be called upon to assist the scientists with their experiments.
Mad Science Group Inc. has franchises located around the world, bringing science education to millions of children each year.
This event and prizes are sponsored by Cox Communications.
Young Adult/Marketing Librarian Jennifer King announced other events at the library next week:
From June 2 through Aug. 2 the library will be holding the “Spark a Reaction” teen summer library program. To help celebrate this, every Monday students in grades 7-12 are invited to meet at 2 p.m. in the Teen Spot for science-themed movies.
This year’s summer program for adults is “Literary Elements.” Any adult 18 and older is invited to participate in Book Bingo for a chance to win prizes. The grand prize is a Google Nexus 7 Tablet sponsored by the Friends of the Great Bend Public Library.
