ELLINWOOD — A new city council member, James Cornwell, was sworn in at the regular meeting of the Ellinwood City Council last Tuesday. Cornwell was appointed by Mayor Frank Koelsch to replace Ken Lebbin, who was appointed as a Barton County Commissioner in May.
Lebbin was appointed to the Barton County Commission to replace former commissioner Don Cates who died in a plane crash in April.
In a light agenda, the council heard a positive report on the activities on Sept. 6-7 at the Ellinwood airport.
The rocket launch on Saturday went well, Lebbin said, who is an aircraft owner.
The Sunday fly in also went well. “We had quite an assortment of aircraft,” said Lebbin. “We had a real good turn out.”
There were 170 plus people at the Ellinwood Airport on Sunday for the classic car show and airplane fly in. Thirty classic cars were shown along with 15 aircraft.
“Activity breeds activity,” said Lebbin. He said the only criticism is that people couldn’t find the airport, and that double sided signage was needed on the highway.
Lebbin said that there was some business ventures discussed. There was discussion of turning the flyin into an annual event.
The council heard:
•A short report on cyber security from Carl Meyers of the Kansas Power Pool. He encouraged council members to attend an upcoming conference concerning electricity.
•A request from Ellinwood District Hospital and Clinic use of Wolf Park and city streets on Oct. 4 for a health walk, which was approved.
•Approved a bill from Mayer Specialty Service for $11,057. Mayer cleaned out a section of the sewer system.
