Ewalt Elementary School Principal Greg Clark of Augusta has been hired as the new superintendent for Central Plains USD 112 School District. Clark will begin his duties July 1.
A 1987 graduate of Great Bend High School, Clark grew up in Great Bend and both of his parents, Ron and Mary Anne Clark, were teachers in the USD 428 district.
He is excited about the return to the area. “I’m looking forward to it,” the principal said. “It’s like coming home.”
“It’s what drew me to this job,” Clark said. “They’re good people (at USD 112). I look forward to working with them.”
Clark interviewed with the school board in February. He was offered the job not long after the interview.
The move from Augusta 12 miles from Wichita to central Kansas will be a change, but it’s one that Clark is looking forward to.
“It’s a good change,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the area.”
The small town atmosphere is also a plus. “You know people real well,” Clark said. “This was the right opportunity for me. The teachers and the board of education impressed me.”
He is currently looking for a place to live, which will be in Claflin, Bushton, Holyrood or Wilson.
In his new job, Clark will keep the same vision as he has had throughout his career in education. That is “Build great relationships with students, employees and community, always doing what is best for kids.”
“We want to produce students ready for the world,” he said.
His hobby is fishing in bass tournaments around Kansas and being in a bass club. “I love it,” he said. “It clears my mind.”
Clark lived in Great Bend from the time he was one year old until after he graduated from Barton Community College. Ron and Mary Anne moved to Hutchinson ten years ago.
He attended Emporia State University, majoring in Elementary Education. After graduation, Clark taught school for 14 years at Derby.
Clark has a master’s degree in curriculum instruction, certification for building principal, and District Level Certificate from Wichita State University. He has been in Augusta for eight years as the principal of Ewalt, which has about 365 students.
He is married to wife Patti, and has four adult children, Karen, Ben Alex and Elizabeth.
