Panther Somers ties for 3rd

GARDEN CITY — Great Bend's Ethan Somers (80, 40-40) tied for third place at Thursday's Garden City Golf Invitational in 54-degree weather with 10 to 15 mph northerly winds.

The Panthers also counted scores by 14th-place Alec Premer, 84 (42-42); 19th-place Cal Schartz, 86 (43-43); and 21st place Ian Premer, 87 (46-41).

The Panthers recorded a season high six birdies. Alec Premer birdied Nos. 7 and 16. Ian Premer birdied Nos. 3 and 15. Somers birdied No. 16. Schartz birdied No. 13.

The Panthers (337) placed fourth behind team champion Hays (314) at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.

Hays High's Caleb Thompson (73, 35-38) earned medalist honors with five birdies on Nos. 3, 5, 7, 8 and 14.
