Officers have busy weekend

Maybe it was the nearly full moon, or the result of after harvest celebrations, but officers at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Great Bend Police Department fielded several disturbance complaints this past weekend.
A fireworks complaint was lodged around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, in the area of Commanche Road, just south of SE 40 Road. The first caller to complain said this has been going on since the 4th of July. Another caller at 10:52 p.m. reported hearing five loud explosions in that sounded like bombs, coming from the Hart’s Corner area. Officers made contact with subjects in the 10 block of SE 20 Road; no case was taken.
Barton County Sheriff’s Office assisted with responding to some minor disturbances in and around Ellinwood late Saturday/early Sunday, as the After Harvest Festival wrapped up. These include a report of a naked male running in the area of West 6th St. and North Fritz Ave. at 1:36 a.m.
Officers responded to a large party in the 10 block of SW 130 at 2:55 a.m. Sunday, when it was reported vehicles were blocking the roadway. Five were deemed traffic hazards and towed.
At 6:38 a.m. Sunday, officers checked a vehicle at 32nd and Main, Great Bend, after the driver went to sleep at the stop light. The driver tested negative for alcohol, saying he had been up all night and was driving home.
It was also discovered Sunday morning that a vehicle and struck a power pole and fence on the southwest corner of property at 199 SW 52 Ave. Fingerprints and paint were found at the scene.
Great Bend Police checked on a report of shots fire near the bridge at 2nd St. at 9:03 p.m. Friday, and shots were later heard in the 1700 block of Morphy Street and the 700 block of Morphy, both around 11:08 p.m. There were fireworks complaints at 10:40 p.m. from the 2100 block of 31st St., and at 11:29 p.m. from the 1600 block of Lakin Ave.
Two officers responded to a report of an assault at 401 3rd St. at 1:06 p.m. Saturday.
Several loud music complaints, were also lodged Saturday night.
