The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo lost one of its older residents Monday. Barusha, an 18-year-old female lion had to be euthanized due to ill health.
The lion’s health had been deteriorating for some time, City Attorney Bob Suelter said. She was on several medications and had lost her eyesight.
There are still two male lions at the zoo. And, the city continues to replace the animals it loses.
Barusha had been at the zoo since she was a cub and was one of the longest-lived residents. “She will be missed,” Suelter said.
