An Otis woman died Monday in a two-vehicle accident in Rush County.

Sharon L. Royer, 52, died at the scene of the collision, which occurred at 3:26 p.m. on K-4, 0.2 miles west of County Road 280, near La Crosse.

Winds were blowing 30-40 mph and the roads were icy and snow-packed when Royer lost control of the pickup she was driving and slid sideways toward an oncoming pickup, according to the Rush County Sheriff’s Office.

Royer was driving east in a 2003 Chevrolet 2500-HD, and the westbound driver was John Moravek, 51, of Hays, in a 1998 Dodge Ram. The front of the Dodge struck the passenger side of Royer’s vehicle in the westbound lane.

Rush County Emergency Medical Service responded. Moravek was transported to Rush County Memorial Hospital and later taken to Hays Medical Center. His passenger, 23-year-old Aaron Moravek, was also taken to Hays Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

All three were wearing seat belts.

Royer was pronounced dead at the scene. Her funeral services are being arranged by Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, and service times appear  in the obituary section of gbtribune.com and in the Great Bend Tribune. A complete obituary will be published later.
