A robber who reportedly grabbed a bag of cash from the Best Western office Tuesday morning escaped on a bicycle, according to information from Detective David Bailey at the Great Bend Police Department.

Police are looking for a black male in his 20s with short, black, curly hair, roughly 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build, who made off with approximately $1,800 in cash. He was wearing a white T-shirt and shiny black gym shorts.

The Best Western Angus Inn is located on 10th St., but its business office is across the street at 1018 Madison St. The suspect reportedly entered the office around 9 a.m. as a clerk was preparing a bank deposit. "There was a bank bag of cash on the desk," Bailey said. "He grabbed it and ran."

Police followed the bicycle tire tracks through the alley to the street. Officers from the Great Bend Police Department and Barton County Sheriff’s Office checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. He was last seen heading east on a bicycle in the 2800 block of 12th St.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this crime or any crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 792-1300 or 888-305-1300.
