The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rollover accident that was discovered around 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of NE 30 Road. It was determined that the owner of the vehicle, a 2010 Dodge Avenger, was Ahmad Walker, 22, a student at Barton Community College. The occupants of the car were located with the help of BCC security.
Officers learned that Walker was driving east on NE 30 Road around 2:30 a.m. and swerved to miss an animal in the roadway. He lost control and the car went into the south ditch, where it rolled approximately two times, landing on its wheels.
Walker was able to drive out of the ditch back onto the roadway, but the car was too damaged to go further. There were three passengers, identified as Darren Black, 21; Carl Brown, 18; and Jalin Barnes, 20. All four left the accident on foot. The only one injured was Black, who was transported by Great Bend Fire Department ambulance to Great Bend Regional Hospital with minor injuries to his hand. All were wearing seat belts.
