School Board seeks calendar input

The Unified School District 428 Board of Education is seeking input from the public about the 2011-2012 school-year calendar.

A short survey about the three calendar options under consideration can be taken by visiting the district’s website, www.usd428.net, and clicking on the 2011-2012DistrictCalendarFeedback button.

The USD 428 calendar committee, comprised of 16 teachers and administrators, originally developed five 2011-2012 district calendar options, each fulfilling the 188 contract teacher days.

Tom Vernon, superintendent of schools, reviewed with the school board each format during and then the calendar committee reduced the number of options to three.

"Everyone’s opinion counts since the district calendar affects, not only staff and student families, but all of our community," Vernon said. "Staff and community members are encouraged to express their opinions using this feedback survey.

"Although this is not a democratic vote, it is one of several tools the BOE will use when determining the final calendar," he said.

The school board will take staff and community feedback into consideration, as well as committee input. The final calendar should be approved during the March 14 meeting.
