The state’s number one librarian will visit the Great Bend Public Library when it holds an open house from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
Kansas’ State Librarian Jo Budler was named the 2013 Librarian of the Year by Library Journal. After being appointed the state librarian in 2010, Budler learned that Kansas Library System’s collection of electronic books was in jeopardy.
As the KSL newsletter recounts: “Kansas’ ebook platform, OverDrive, presented Budler with a renewal proposal increasing administration costs by some 700 percent and losing access to ebooks for the users of Kansas. Budler quickly rejected more than one proposal from OverDrive and won the right to transfer titles to a new platform. This dispute set off a long (and public) national examination of library service agreements.”
During the open house, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m.
