This Senior Prom is for senior citizens

Senior Prom is usually a spring event for high school students, but this weekend the Great Bend High School Kayette Club is offering a Senior Senior Prom – from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Senior Center.
Actually, the free program is called “A Night Under the Stars,” but this event may give guests a flashback to their senior prom, Kayette sponsor Karen Clark said. It is open to the public, and prom attire is optional. Kayettes will decorate the Senior Center and a disc jockey will play some dance music. Refreshments will be provided.
The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. GBHS Kayettes attended a KAY leadership camp this summer and “recreating recreation” was chosen as the area service project, Clark said. The students contacted the Great Bend Recreation Commission and discussed possible service projects.
GBRC Program Coordinator Megan Hammeke suggested a prom-themed event at the senior center.
The Senior Center is located at 2005 Kansas Ave. For  more information, contact Clark at GBHS, 793-1521, or call the Great Bend Recreation Commission, 793-3755 ext. 2.
