Three people died and two more were injured Tuesday evening, when a pickup struck a farm tractor on K-4 in Rush County.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m., three miles east of the K-4 junction with U.S. 183. A GMC pickup driven by Raymond Eugene Redding, 55, of Hays, and a John Deere tractor driven by Don C. Hardy, 83, of Bison, were both westbound when the tractor made a left-handed turn into a field drive. Redding swerved to miss the tractor but the pickup struck the tractor.

Both drivers were taken to Hays Medical Center in Hays with undetermined injuries, but three passengers in the pickup died as a result of the collision: Jose R. Villarreal Jr., 47, of Ellis; Ricky Dale Hernandez, 35, of Ellis; and David Scott Florian, 36, of Hays.

None of the people were wearing safety restraints.
