Veterans Day program planned at high school

Great Bend High School students will honor men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces on Veterans Day.
Social Studies instructor Michelle Moore said veterans are invited to come to GBHS on Wednesday, Nov. 11, where they will be honored guests at an all-school assembly at 9 a.m. Floor-level seating will be available.
The entire Social Studies department has been involved preparing a patriotic program, along with the music department. Instructor Daniel Eyestone said there will be patriotic music performed the GBHS band and orchestra and by the Madrigals singing group.
Members of the American Legion Riders will serve as the honor guard. Veterans from each branch of service will be asked to stand when their theme song is played. Thomas Drewel Jr. will be the guest speaker.
The entire program is expected to last about 50 minutes.
Earlier that morning, Kari Batman’s “Nutrition & Wellness 2” students will serve breakfast to approximately 25 veterans.
November is be a busy time for the Nutrition & Wellness 2 students, Batman said. They are also preparing food for the School Board Luncheon and the Education Foundation Auction.
Band members are also scheduled to appear at the Golden Belt Veterans Memorial Stone dedication at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Belt Memorial Park, 59 NW 50 Road, Great Bend.
