United States Navy Vietnam veteran David Brabander was awarded a Quilt of Valor on Nov. 11, 2017, at the Golden Belt Memorial Park Veterans Memorial. The Quilt top was made by Margaret Evers; quilting by Group Leader Amy Schartz Mellor. Brabander served from January 1969 to January 1973 aboard the Juneau LPD 10 as a machinists mate 2 (MM2). His ship transported tanks and troops back and forth to Vietnam. After active duty, he served in the Navy Reserve from July 1978 to July 1987.
