HOISINGTON — Fears that all children face and how the Bible tackles those very fears in the life of one of its principle characters is the focus of Vacation Bible School at New Life Baptist, 364 West 12, Hoisington. Running 6:30-8:30 p.m., Aug. 5-9, the VBS is open to all children, ages 4 through finished 6th grade.
“Colossal Coaster World VBS” uses a roller coaster theme as it explores facing fears and trusting God.
“We have found that kids can really relate to this Bible material because it is focused around stories that they can identify with,” said Doyle Smith, pastor. “Fears of change, fear of danger to themselves or those they care about, fear of storms, fear of speaking up to help another person or when they see something going on that is not right, fear of doing the right thing when others around them might not approve – all of these issues that are very real to children, and they were all there in the life of our main character.
“Yes, we have a fun theme! Of course, it’s fun! It is focused around a carnival and roller coasters! That is also something children can relate to and want to be a part of, and it is something that offers thrill and, yeah, a little bit of the scare factor,” said Smith.
Open to the entire community, “Colossal Coaster World” will be available every night next week and will climax with Family Night on Friday, when parents and other family members can come and join in the fun and see what the children have been doing all week.
