WICHITA — The Jehovah’s Witnesses’ district convention will be held July 6-8 at the Century II Convention Center, 225 West Douglas Ave., Wichita. An estimated 8,000 people will attend this event and/or the Spanish convention to be held Aug. 17-19 for Bible-based programs, sponsors said.
Local spokesman Lewis Smith said Jehovah’s Witnesses feel that all, including non-Witnesses, will benefit from the positive message and practical suggestions that will be highlighted at the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” convention program.
Admission is free. The first of the two three-day conventions will start at 9:20 a.m. on Friday, July 6. The daily themes and titles of program parts are based on passages of scripture, including 1 Samuel 16:7, 1 Chronicles 28:9 and Matthew 12:34. The convention theme is based on Proverbs 4:23: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (KJV)” Strengthening one’s spirituality will be the focus of the convention.
The program promises a fresh examination of Biblical references to the figurative heart, sponsors said. Through lively discourse, dramatic Bible teachings and presentations, and a live play, the program will emphasize how protecting the figurative heart will enhance one’s spiritual well-being, family life and happiness.
Locally, all of the area’s 20 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses will support the activity of distributing printed invitations to the convention. Throughout the United States, there will be 385 conventions in  203 cities. Worldwide, there are over 7.6 million Witnesses in more than 109,000 congregations.
