Bubbles, squeeze balls and sidewalk chalk are among items received by Kathy Estes (on right) on behalf of Sunflowers Incredible Years Pre-School. Debbie Jones and Ruth Brown (left to right) presented the items from Presbyterian Women who collected the manipulative toys as a part of their annual Birthday Offering.

The annual summer Birthday Offering Gathering of Presbyterian Women was held at the home of Judy Fox. Eighteen members attending brought a variety of children’s manipulative toys such as blowing bubbles, sidewalk chalk, Play-Doh, squeeze balls, and bubble wrap to be given to local pre-school children. Christa Smith, a guest at the gathering, gave a heartfelt description of the importance to a child’s physical and mental development that manipulative toys and play equipment be frequently used in their play. The manipulative toys were taken to the Sunflower Pre-School and the Helping Hands Pre-School in Great Bend by Debbie Jones, Ruth Brown, Melinda Hiss, and Veronica Hiss.

The 2010 contribution to the National Presbyterian Women’s Birthday Offering this year supports a Kindergarten and Childcare Center in Kirkuk, Iraq, and several children’s and family projects at the Peace Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kent.

Hostesses for the gathering were Jan Bonine and Jean Dringmann from Rebekah Circle.
