LARNED — An interactive comedy about the Catholic culture of fundraising and bingo will have audience members laughing and checking their cards, according to the creator of “Bible Bingo: An Act of Charity ... in Two Acts.”
This production will appear in Kansas for the first time when it comes to the Larned Community Center Theatre at 1500 Toles Ave., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, said Barbara Hammond, Larned. The show is sponsored by the Sacred Heart Parish and advance tickets can be purchased the parish office at 11th and State or at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, both in Larned. The cost for tickets is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Prices will be $5 higher at the door.
Not even St. Peter could deny this much fun, quip the promoters of “Bible Bingo.” The script was developed and is performed by Vicki Quade, creator of the one-woman show, “Late Night Catechism.” According to the website www.nuns4fun.com, Quade has written and produced a lot of theater in Chicago, including comedies, bluegrass musicals, improv and magic. “Late Nite Catechism” opened in 1993 in Chicago and holds the record for the longest running religious comedy in the city’s history.
She’s written several religious comedies since then. In “Bible Bingo,” the parish needs money and the Archdiocese has a new bingo department. Bring the two together and you have a night of bible trivia, audience interaction, improvised moments and the funniest quiz about the Holy Family you’ve ever seen, Quade says.
“Add to that a box of wacky prizes, fun bingo cards, and a lot of Catholic humor. In this interactive bingo show, you’ll actually play bingo, and still learn a little something about what it means to be Catholic! The show gets the audience talking about everything from Adam and Eve to modern sins.
“You’ll be laughing so hard, you’ll have to be careful watching your bingo cards!”
