Five area residents were injured in a two-vehicle collision on in Pratt County Saturday evening.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Derek L. Jones, 30, of St. John was traveling southbound on U.S. 281 in a 1998 Ford Taurus about 12 miles north of Pratt at around 7:10 p.m. when, for unspecified reasons, Jones lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line. The car collided with a northbound 2012 GMC Sierra pickup with four occupants, all from Great Bend.
Jones was transported to Pratt Regional Hospital with suspected serious injuries. The four occupants of the Sierra, driver 18-year-old Aaron Juarez, and passengers Fatima E. Lopez-Ruyz, age 32, Dante Vasques, age 4, and Nohemi Vasquez, age 43, were also transported to Pratt Regional hospital, all with suspected minor injuries.
All four occupants of the Sierra were restrained at the time of the crash. Jones, however, did not have his seat belt on at the time of the crash.
